Do you want to treat NHS patients on GP referral?

Counsellors and psychotherapists       29.8.19 Do you want to treat NHS patients on GP referral? In England, there is an epidemic of depression affecting 1 in 7 of the population, totalling over 7 million. The lucky few of these (about half a million) get time limited Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) under the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme, but the vast majority (about 7 million) only get antidepressants, which do not even claim to cure them, and have harmful side effects including suicidal thoughts. Patients who ask for counselling and psychotherapy are told that there is none provided free on the NHS.   In January, the Government pledged an extra £20.5 bnpa from 2022/3 to the NHS under the long term plan, of which £2bnpa is to go to mental health. The prime minister, Boris Johnson, has recently  pledged an extra £1.8bn for 2020/21. Some of this extra money should fund counselling and psychotherapy for depressed and anxious patients. The CAmpaign for Social Prescribing Of Talking Therapies (CASPOTT) believes that social interventions and talking therapies, including counselling and psychotherapy, should be provided free at the point of user to patients on GP referral. However, therapists need a contract with the NHS before they can treat NHS patients.  CASPOTT therefore lobbies MPs, councillors on Health and Wellbeing Boards (HWBs) and doctors on Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to create a new system of social prescribing whereby therapists working in the private and voluntary sector can be licenced to treat patients on GP referral.  If you support CASPOTT in this objective, please register with John Kapp, 22, Saxon Rd Hove BN3 4LE, 01273 417997, johnkapp@btinternet.com. Website www.caspott.org.uk is under construction, but meanwhile you can read more about it on paper 9.143 of www.reginaldkapp.org. John also hold open meetings almost every Sunday in Apple room, 2nd floor, Essence, 86, Church Rd, opposite Hove town hall, accessed at the back. All welcome to drop in to meet him and discuss  CASPOTT, preferably according to the following schedule: 10-1130am CAmpaign for Social Prescribing of Talking Therapies (CASPOTT) which stands to use the extra money for the NHS (£1.8bnpa) paying complementary therapists for treating NHS patients. 1130-1pm For Brainspotting practice. Observers welcome. 2-5pm Family constellations practice and facilitator training. Observers welcome.
