Why is CASPOTT important?
- Save money by reducing spending on unnecessary drugs so that it can be directed to more where it is needed most.
- Create a healthier nation.
- Less demand and strain on the NHS by promoting preventative treatments instead of addictive.
At present, GPs can only prescribe drugs to patients with mental problems, but these don’t cure them and have harmful side effects, including addiction.
Social interventions and talking therapies can help the heal and cure mental problems, but they are only accessible to people who can pay, which creates health inequalities.
Social prescribing by the new system we want will reduce health inequalities by enabling the poor to access social interventions and talking therapies as easily as the rich.
