The new government has guaranteed by law £2 bnpa of new money to treat mental health patients in England, of which Brighton and Hove’s share is £10mpa. Mindfulness is the active ingredient in healing, and the Social Enterprise Complementary Therapy Company (SECTCo) www.sectco.org.uk has already provided 42 NICE recommended Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) 10 week course to more than 200 vulnerable people, and trained more than 20 to facilitate this course (see course textbook on 9.91 of www.reginaldkapp.org)
We are running a CAmpaign for Social Prescribing Of Talking Therapies (CASPOTT) www.caspott.org.uk, and www.prescribe.fitness, calling for this new money to be spent on social prescribing of mindfulness. Our city’s £10 mpa could pay 300 full time therapists and administrators to provide this MBCT course to 1,000 vulnerable patients annually.
