Last year 2018/19, 10,200 children in Sussex were referred by their GP to Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust, but 1 in 3 (3,400) were not given care. (Argus 27.1.20 News p 24) This is shocking when the government have been giving more money to the NHS. We are campaigning for the new money promised to be spent in primary (rather than secondary) care, with GPs able to prescribe therapeutic social interventions (such as exercise, yoga, performing arts, family constellations) in the community for children and adults, and for the teachers to be paid as pharmacists are paid for drugs, of receipt of the used prescription form. This would create a mental health service worthy of the name ‘service’.
